Hadith Of The Week – Volume 03 Issue 28
Hope Is Never Lost: The Power of Keeping Hope Alive
Occasion for reflecting on this hadith: 12th July: International Day of Hope
Introduction
Every year on 12 July, the International Day of Hope reminds people around the world that hope gives us strength to face life’s challenges. In Islam, hope is not simply a positive feeling; it is a source of inner strength and smart effort that helps us continue even in difficult times. On this occasion, let us reflect on a beautiful saying of Imam Ali (peace be upon him) about the importance of hope.
الام علی (ع): أَعْظَمُ الْبَلَاءِ انْقِطَاعُ الرَّجَاءِ
“The greatest affliction is the loss of hope.” (Ghurar al-Hikam, Vol. 1, p. 186)
Educational messages of the hadith for teenagers and Youth
- Let Your Faith Give You Hope
When life feels uncertain, a strong faith reminds you that Allah is always with you. Faith gives you hope for the future and helps you stay strong during difficult times.
Practical Challenge: Spend five minutes each day reading a few verses from the Qur’an or making a sincere du’a, and think about one reason to stay hopeful.
- Turn Hope into Action
Hope is not about waiting for things to get better. Real hope means working hard, making wise choices, and never giving up on your goals.
Practical Challenge: Choose one goal you have been putting off and take one small step towards it today.
- Don’t Give Up After Failure
One bad result alone does not decide your future. Hope helps you try again.
Practical Challenge: Think of one recent failure. Write down one small action you can take this week to improve.
- Remember That Every Problem Can Teach You Something
Difficult times often help you grow stronger and wiser.
Practical Challenge: At the end of the week, write down one lesson you learned from a challenge you faced.
- Build Your Own “Hope Collection”
Make a personal list of Qur’anic verses and hadiths that give you hope and strength. Read them whenever you face stress, disappointment, or difficult times.
Practical Challenge: Choose three verses or hadiths this week, write them in a notebook or on your phone, and read them whenever you need encouragement.
Educational messages of the hadith for parents
- Tell Stories That Build Hope
Share stories of faithful people who stayed hopeful during hardship. Their example teaches children that faith and perseverance can turn difficulties into strength.
Practical Challenge: This week, tell your child the story of one believer who overcame hardship through faith and hope, and discuss what they can learn from it.
- Never Lose Hope in Your Children
Do not give up on improving your children’s behaviour or faith. Change takes time, and patience with hope can slowly open hearts and shape character.
Practical Challenge: This week, instead of criticising one repeated mistake, calmly guide your child again with encouragement and remind yourself that change is still possible.
- Turn Mistakes into Learning Opportunities
Mistakes should become lessons, not reasons to lose hope.
Practical Challenge: The next time your child makes a mistake, ask, “What can we learn from this together?”
Educational messages of the hadith for imams and teachers
- Explain How Faith Builds Hope
Help people understand that faith gives life meaning, strengthens trust in Allah, and provides confidence that every hardship can lead to something good. This makes hope and resilience grow.
Practical Challenge: In your next talk, briefly explain how faith builds hope in difficult times, and encourage people to apply it in daily life.
- Correct Without Discouraging
People accept advice more easily when they feel respected.
Practical Challenge: When correcting someone, mention one strength before discussing the mistake.
