A Promise of Faith, Righteousness and Global Justice

Occasion of reflecting on this ayah: The 8th of Rabīʿ al-Awwal: The beginning of the Imamate of the Awaited Imam, the Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon him).

Introduction

In numerous narrations from Imam al-Sajjad, Imam al-Baqir, and Imam al-Sadiq (peace be upon them), we read that the complete and ultimate manifestation of this verse is the global government of Imam al-Mahdi (may Allah hasten his reappearance), which Allah has promised, a time when the people of faith will govern the world.

“Allah has promised those of you who believe and do good deeds that He will surely make them successors on the earth, as He made those before them successors, and that He will surely establish for them their religion which He has chosen for them, and that He will surely replace their fear with security.” (The Qur’an, 24:55).

Educational messages of the ayah for teenagers and youth

  1. Let Your Faith Show

Good deeds are the fruit of real faith; if our actions are not good, we should honestly question the strength of our faith.

Practical challenge: Choose one good deed that reflects your faith and practise it every day this week.

  1. Learn About the Awaited Imam

Learn about the life and mission of Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon him), and explore how the belief in a promised saviour appears in different divine faiths.

Practical challenge: Spend 20 minutes this week reading a reliable source about Imam al-Mahdi and write down one connection you find with Qur’an 24:55.

  1. Faith Gives Your Efforts Direction

If you want your efforts in life to have lasting value, combine sincere faith in Allah with good and responsible action.

Practical challenge: Choose one important goal and ask yourself how faith and good character can help you achieve it.

  1. Faith Helps You Face Hard Times

Everyone faces challenges and difficult tests, but faith and good deeds give us the strength, patience and direction to overcome them.

Practical challenge: When you face a difficulty this week, respond with patience and take one positive step instead of giving up.

  1. Never Lose Hope

Do not lose hope because of injustice, suffering or uncertainty in today’s world; trust Allah’s promise and continue working for a better future.

Practical challenge: When you feel discouraged, replace one negative thought with a hopeful prayer and one useful action.

  1. Truth Will Ultimately Prevail

The Qur’an teaches that the ultimate victory of truth and righteousness is part of Allah’s established way in history.

Practical challenge: Stand for the truth in one situation this week, even when doing so is difficult or unpopular.

  1. Don’t Let Social Media Control You

Your worth comes from your belief in Allah and your faithful deeds, not from likes, followers or other people’s opinions.

Practical challenge: Spend one social-media-free hour each day on prayer, family, exercise or helping someone.

Educational messages of the ayah for parents

  1. Raise Future Leaders

Parents should raise independent, wise, and trustworthy children who are prepared for meaningful societal stewardship (istikhlāf), rather than just routine daily survival.

Practical challenge: Give your child one age-appropriate responsibility this week and let them manage it independently.

  1. Build Inner Confidence Through Faith

Children who know that their dignity comes from Allah are less likely to depend on popularity, appearance, wealth or the approval of others.

Practical challenge: Praise your child this week for a quality such as honesty, courage or kindness rather than appearance or achievement.

  1. Raise Believers with Good Character

Faith and good deeds belong together, so children need both spiritual and practical guidance.

Practical challenge: Have one family conversation this week about an Islamic value and how to practise it.

  1. Turn Hope into Responsibility

Hope for a better future should encourage effort, learning and service rather than passivity.

Practical challenge: Start one simple family service activity, such as helping a neighbour or someone in need.

Educational messages of the ayah for imams and teachers

  1. Teach Active, Not Passive, Waiting

Explain that awaiting Imam al-Mahdi (peace be upon him) is not passive waiting; it means preparing ourselves through faith, good deeds, justice, service and positive action.

Practical challenge: In your next lesson or sermon, explain one practical way that people can actively prepare themselves for the Imam’s mission.

  1. Give Hope to Those Who Are Struggling

When believers face poverty, discrimination, war, displacement or other hardships, religious guidance should strengthen their hope in Allah rather than allow suffering to lead to despair.

Practical challenge: In your next sermon or lesson, share one message of hope and one practical way people can respond to hardship.

  1. Use History to Strengthen Faith

The reference to previous generations – “as He made those before them successors” – shows the value of historical examples in helping people understand and trust Allah’s promises.

Practical challenge: Include one relevant example from Islamic history in your next sermon and connect it to a challenge Muslims face today.
