The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH): A Living Model for a Better Life

Occasion of reflecting on this ayah: 28th of Safar: The anniversary of the passing of the Noble Prophet Muhammad (PBUH)

Introduction

We reflect this week on one of the Qur’an’s beautiful verses about the Prophet (pbuh): a verse that invites us not only to admire him, but also to follow his example in our everyday lives:

لَقَدْ كَانَ لَكُمْ فِي رَسُولِ اللَّهِ أُسْوَةٌ حَسَنَةٌ لِمَنْ كَانَ يَرْجُو اللَّهَ وَالْيَوْمَ الْآخِرَ وَذَكَرَ اللَّهَ كَثِيرًا

“Indeed, in the Messenger of Allah you have an excellent example for whoever has hope in Allah and the Last Day and remembers Allah often.” (Surah Al-Ahzab, 33:21)

A Prophetic life begins with hope in Allah, belief in the Last Day, and frequent remembrance of Allah.

Practical Challenge: Set aside five minutes each day for quiet reflection and dhikr.

  1. Choose Your Role Models Wisely

Not everyone who is popular or successful is worthy of imitation; choose people whose character reflects your values.

  1. Love People, But Put Allah First

You can admire and love others without allowing them to become more important than your relationship with Allah.

Practical Challenge: Write down the names of five people you care about and ask yourself: Does being friends with all of them bring me closer to God?

  1. Be the Person You Admire

The Prophet (PBUH) teaches us that true role models are known by their character, not by their popularity or number of followers.

Practical Challenge: For one week, before posting or commenting online, ask yourself: “Would I be proud if the Prophet (pbuh) saw the way I am speaking?”

  1. Stay Strong When Life Gets Difficult

The Prophet (PBUH) faced rejection, loss and hardship, yet he remained hopeful, patient and committed to what was right.

Practical Challenge: When something goes wrong this week, pause before reacting and choose one positive action instead of complaining or giving up.

Educational Messages of this Ayah for Parents

  1. Be a Good Role Model

Children learn most powerfully from the behaviour they see at home, so parents should model the values they teach.

Practical Challenge: At the end of each day, ask your children which behaviour of yours they noticed and appreciated or not appreciated.

  1. Introduce the Prophet’s Example

The Prophet (PBUH) should be presented to children as a model whose qualities can guide their everyday choices.

Practical Challenge: Tell your children one short Prophetic story during a family meal.

  1. Help Children Choose Wisely

Children’s religious commitment and sound judgement need to be nurtured early within the family, before an unsuitable environment distances them from Islamic and Prophetic values.

Help children recognise and avoid influences that promote harmful values or behaviour.
