About the Book:
Springs of Wisdom: Thoughts and Moral Teachings of Āyatullāh Bahjat is a deeply inspiring collection of spiritual insights, ethical teachings, and words of wisdom drawn from the life and teachings of Grand Āyatullāh Muḥammad Taqī Bahjat Fūmanī. Bringing together a brief biography, reflections on his spiritual character, and his concise yet profound sayings, the book offers readers a glimpse into the wisdom of a scholar whose life was devoted to seeking nearness to Allah (SWT). Grounded in the teachings of the Holy Qur’an and the traditions of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them), his words illuminate essential aspects of the spiritual journey, including self-purification, sincerity, humility, vigilance over one’s actions, and the practical application of religious knowledge. The book reminds readers that true wisdom is not merely acquired through intellectual study, but cultivated through spiritual discipline, moral refinement, and the sincere pursuit of divine pleasure. Like a spring that continually nourishes those who drink from it, these timeless teachings invite readers to reflect deeply, transform their inner lives, and take meaningful steps towards Allah. Springs of Wisdom is a valuable companion for anyone seeking spiritual enlightenment and a deeper understanding of Islamic ethics and mysticism.
About the Author:
Grand Āyatullāh Muḥammad Taqī Bahjat Fūmanī (1916-2009) was a renowned Iranian Shia Muslim jurist, religious authority, and spiritual mystic, widely respected for his profound piety, exceptional humility, and lifelong commitment to the pursuit of divine knowledge. Born in Fuman, Iran, he began his religious education at an early age before continuing his studies in the seminaries of Karbala and Najaf, Iraq, where he benefited from distinguished scholars and developed a deep interest in Islamic jurisprudence, ethics, and spiritual wayfaring. He later settled in Qom, Iran, where he taught advanced Islamic sciences for decades and became a highly influential figure among religious scholars, students, and spiritual seekers. Despite his great scholarly stature, Āyatullāh Bahjat was known for his simple lifestyle, quiet demeanour, and steadfast devotion to worship, preferring sincere spiritual practice to public recognition. His teachings consistently emphasised that the path to perfection begins with fulfilling one’s religious obligations, avoiding sin, purifying the heart, and acting upon the knowledge one already possesses. His brief statements often conveyed profound truths, reflecting a lifetime of scholarship, contemplation, and spiritual discipline. Although he passed away on 17 May 2009, his legacy continues to inspire countless believers, and his teachings remain a lasting source of guidance for those striving to cultivate moral excellence and draw closer to Allah (SWT).
