28th Safer
28th Safar 10AH Wafat of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) – 28th Safer 50AH Shahadat of Imam Hasan (as)
Death of the Prophet and the incidents after his demise
It should be clear that Shia and Sunni scholars have consensus that the Holy Prophet (S) passed away on a Monday and most Shia scholars believe that it was the 28th of Safar, and the majority of the Sunnis say that it was 12th Rabiul Awwal. And from our scholars.
It is narrated from Imam Muhammad Baqir (a.s.) in Kashaful Ghumma that the Prophet passed away in the 10th year of Hijri and at that time he (pbuh) was aged 63 years. From which 40 years had passed in Mecca and it was here that revelations had started to descend upon him. Thirteen years passed in Mecca and when he (pbuh) migrated to Medina, he (pbuh) was aged 53 years. He (pbuh) lived in Medina for a further 10 years after the Hijra until his (pbuh) demise.
Life if Imam Hasan (as) during the Life the Holy Prophet (pbuh)
Imam Hasan (pbuh) was raised in the household of the Holy Prophet (pbuh) until the age of seven when his (pbuh) grandfather (pbuh) died. Early sources widely report the Holy Prophet (pbuh)’s love for Imam Hasan (pbuh) and his (pbuh) brother Imam Husain (pbuh) saying that the Holy Prophet (pbuh) allowed the boys (pbut) to climb on his (pbuh) back while he (pbuh) was prostrate in prayer and interrupted a sermon to pick Imam Hasan (pbuh) up after his grandson (pbuh) fell. Hadith (Tradition) narrated by Ṭūsī, al-Amālī, p. 312; Ṣadūq, Man lā yaḥḍuruh al-faqīh, vol. 4, p. 179,

named Imam Hasan (pbuh) and Imam Husain (pbuh) as the sayyids (lit. ’chiefs’) of the youth in the paradise. The same is mentioned in Kitab al-Irshad in accordance with a tradition narrated from the Holy Prophet (pbuh). It is further recorded that “He who has loved Imam Hasan (pbuh) and Imam Husain (pbuh) has loved me, and he who has hated them has hated me.”
30th Safer
30th Safer 203 AH Shahadat of Imam Reza (as) – The Failed Plot and Martyrdom
Various events which occurred in Ma’mun’s capital confirmed that Imam al-Ridha’s (pbuh) popularity was growing, despite Ma’mun’s ardent efforts to counter that growth. Many of the Abbasids feared that granting Wilayat al-Ahd to Imam al-Ridha (pbuh) would remove the Abbasids from power indefinitely. What magnified Ma’mun’s worries was the revolt of some Abbasids back in the traditional capital – Baghdad – against him. These factors led Ma’mun in a decision to rid himself of his worry. Thus, the Abbasid ruler Ma’mun decided to have the holy eighth Imam (pbuh) poisoned.
Imam ‘Ali al-Ridha (pbuh) was buried in Tus, present-day Mashhad, Iran. His (pbuh) mausoleum is now a centre to which millions of devotees flock every year.
