About the Book:
Significance and Supplications of Lailatul Qadr is an indispensable companion for the believer seeking to navigate the profound spiritual depths of the “Night of Power.” This work serves as both a theological guide and a practical manual, meticulously detailing the immense spiritual rewards and historical significance of these holy nights. It provides a structured approach to the nights of the 19th, 21st, and 23rd of Ramadan, explaining the celestial importance of the descent of the angels and the divine decree. By anchoring the reader in the “Significance” of these moments, the book transforms the physical exhaustion of a night-long vigil into an intellectually grounded and spiritually rejuvenating experience.
Beyond its academic merit, the book is designed with the modern devotee in mind, offering a curated collection of the most essential A’maal (ritual acts) and supplications. It includes the major Duas traditionally recited during these nights, accompanied by clear English translations that allow non-Arabic speakers to connect authentically with every plea and prayer. For Imams and community leaders, this book is an excellent resource for mosque libraries, as it provides a standardised and accessible format for congregational use. It ensures that the youth and the wider community do not merely observe the rituals, but truly understand the transformative power of the words they utter to their Creator.
About the Authors:
Hujjat ul-Islam as-Saiyed Mehboob Mehdi ‘Abidi al-Najafi, son of as-Syed ‘Abul Hashim ‘Abidi, began his religious education in Najaf at Madrasa as-Sadiq under several prominent scholars before his family was forced to leave Iraq due to Saddam Hussein’s regime. He continued his studies in India at Madrasa Nazimia in Lucknow and later pursued advanced studies (Dars al-Kharij) under leading scholars including Shaykh Baqir al-Irawani and Ayatullah al-Uzma Syed Mohammad Shahroodi, while being formally turbaned by Ayatullah Syed Shahabuddin Marashi al-Najafi in Qom. A knowledgeable scholar fluent in Arabic, Persian, Urdu, and English, he has long been active in preaching and community leadership, serving as Imam of Masjid Imam ‘Ali an-Naqi in New Delhi and later becoming a respected speaker across the United States, United Kingdom, and Canada. Based in Chicago, he has worked extensively to strengthen the Shi‘i Ithna ‘Ashari community, delivering lectures, promoting interfaith understanding at universities such as DePaul University and the University of Illinois, and supporting multilingual Islamic programmes to engage youth and new converts.
