The Return of the Sun: A Manifestation of Imam Ali’s Divine Rank

The sun had begun its slow descent, painting the sky in hues of gold and amber. The heat of the day softened, and the shadows stretched long across the earth. It was the 15th of Shawwal, a day like any other to most, but not to those whose hearts were awake.

The Messenger of Allah (pbuh) had been resting, his blessed head placed gently in the lap of Imam Ali (as). The air was still, filled with a quiet reverence. Imam Ali (as) did not move. He did not wish to disturb him. Time passed, and the sun continued its journey toward the horizon.

Then it happened. The time for Asr prayer approached, then began to slip away.

Imam Ali (as) remained still, out of love and devotion, unwilling to rise and disturb the Prophet (pbuh). And the Prophet (pbuh), resting peacefully, remained undisturbed in Ali’s care. But when the sun had finally set, the moment had passed.

The Prophet (pbuh) gently awoke. “Ali,” he said softly, “did you pray?” Imam Ali (as) lowered his gaze. There was no excuse in his voice, only truth. “No, O Messenger of Allah. I did not wish to disturb your rest.”

A silence followed. Not of regret, but of something deeper, something divine. The Prophet (pbuh) raised his hands toward the heavens. “O Allah, Your servant Ali was in obedience to You and to Your Messenger. Return the sun for him.”

The sky listened. And then, the impossible unfolded. The sun, which had already dipped beyond the horizon, began to rise again. Light returned to the world. The golden glow spread once more across the land, as though time itself had been commanded to pause… and obey.

Those who witnessed it stood in awe. Hearts trembled. Eyes widened. The universe itself seemed to bear witness to the Manifestation and virtue of Imam Ali (as).

Imam Ali (as) stood, composed, and performed his prayer. Not rushed. Not shaken. But with the calm of one whose heart was anchored in Allah (swt).

And then, as his prayer concluded, the sun set once more. Darkness returned—but it was not the same darkness. It carried a light within it, a certainty, a truth that could not be unseen.

This was not merely a miracle. It was a message: that obedience to Allah (swt) is never lost, that sincerity is always seen, and that those who give everything for His sake… may find that even the sun will return for them.
