Every week carries within it memories that connect Muslims with their spiritual heritage. The events remembered in this issue invite us to reflect on faith, wisdom, sacrifice, leadership and the responsibility of believers in shaping a better society.
Wednesday 22 July 2026 – 7 Safar: The Martyrdom of Imam Hasan al-Mujtaba (peace be upon him) (According to a narration)
Imam Hasan ibn Ali (peace be upon him), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), was the second Imam in Shia Islam. According to a widely transmitted report, he was martyred on 7 Safar in 50 AH after being poisoned Due to his resistance against injustice and tyrants.
Imam Hasan’s life demonstrates that true strength is not only found in confrontation, but also in patience, moral courage and protecting higher values.
Message for Today: Choose wisdom, patience and unity while remaining committed to justice and truth.
Wednesday 22 July 2026 – 7 Safar: The Passing of Ayatollah Sayyid Shahab al-Din Mar‘ashi Najafi (may Allah have mercy on him) (1411 AH)
Ayatollah Sayyid Shahab al-Din Mar‘ashi Najafi was one of the leading Shia scholars and jurists of the twentieth century. He was known for his dedication to Islamic scholarship, teaching, preservation of manuscripts and serving the religious community.
One of his great contributions was establishing the Mar‘ashi Najafi Library in Qom, which became one of the most important collections of Islamic manuscripts in the world.
Message for Today: Support knowledge, learning and authentic scholarship as foundations for a faithful society.
Thursday 23 July 2026 – 8 Safar: The Passing of Salman al-Muhammadi (Salman al-Farsi)
Salman al-Farsi, one of the most respected companions of Prophet Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), came from Persia and travelled extensively in search of truth before embracing Islam. He became known for his deep faith, wisdom and closeness to the Prophet.
During the Battle of the Trench (al-Khandaq), Salman suggested the strategy of digging a defensive trench around Madinah, which played an important role in protecting the Muslim community.
Salman’s life represents the universal message of Islam: faith is not limited by ethnicity, nationality or social background. A person’s honour in Islam is based on righteousness and devotion to God. The Qur’an states:
إِنَّ أَكْرَمَكُمْ عِندَ اللَّهِ أَتْقَاكُمْ
“Indeed, the most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is the most righteous of you.” (Surah al-Hujurat 49:13)
Message for Today: Build communities where faith and character matter more than race, culture or social status.
Thursday 23 July 2026 – 8 Safar: The Passing of Ayatollah Sayyid Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei (may Allah have mercy on him) (1413 AH)
Ayatollah Sayyid Abu al-Qasim al-Khoei was one of the greatest Shia jurists of the twentieth century and a leading religious authority for millions of Muslims. He spent much of his life teaching Islamic jurisprudence, theology and principles of legal reasoning in Najaf.
Message for Today: Respect knowledge and seek guidance from trustworthy and qualified scholars.
Friday 24 July 2026 – 9 Safar: The Battle of Nahrawan
The Battle of Nahrawan took place in 38 AH between Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him), the first Imam and the commander of faithful, and the Kharijites. The event became a significant moment in Islamic history because it highlighted the dangers of extremism, misunderstanding religious teachings and judging others without proper knowledge.
Message for Today: Avoid extremism and follow Islam through wisdom, justice and balanced understanding.
Sunday 26 July 2026 – 12 Safar: The Passing of Harun, Brother and Minister of Prophet Musa (peace be upon him)
Harun (Aaron), the brother of Prophet Musa (Moses) (peace be upon them both), was a prophet of Allah and a supporter of Musa in his divine mission. Allah appointed Harun as Musa’s companion in conveying the divine message to Pharaoh and his people.
Message for Today: Support one another in goodness and work together to serve faith and humanity.
