Ayah Of The Week – Volume 03 Issue 15
What is the secret behind the victory of a faithful minority?
Lessons from the Battle of Talut and Jalut
Introduction & Occasion of Reflecting on This Ayah
The 21st of Shawwal commemorates the conquest of al-Andalus, a significant event in Islamic history that demonstrates how firm faith in Almighty God can overcome great difficulties and the material calculations of human beings. This meaning is beautifully reflected in the Qur’anic account of the battle between Ṭālūt and Jālūt, reminding us that the power of faith in God and the struggle against oppression go far beyond material strength and outward calculations:
“… They said, ‘We have no power today against Goliath and his troops.’ But those who were certain they would meet Allah said, ‘How many a small group has overcome a large group by Allah’s permission. And Allah is with the patient.’” (Surah Al-Baqarah, 2:249)
Educational Messages from the Verse for Teenagers and Youth
- Look Beyond Numbers
Do not be impressed by crowds or appearances; true strength comes from within, not from how many people are on one side.
Practical Challenge: This week, make one decision based on your values, not peer pressure.
- Quality Over Quantity
You do not need to be part of the biggest or most popular group to succeed; your faith and determination matter more.
Practical Challenge: Spend time improving one personal skill instead of seeking approval from others.
- Reject the “I Can’t” Mindset
Saying “I can’t” is a mental trap; replace it with “With Allah’s help, I will try.”
