ʿAbdul-ʿAzīm al-Ḥasanī (ʿa): The Story of Faithful Refuge
In the turbulent days of the Abbasid rule, when the Shīʿa of Ahlulbayt (ʿa) were hunted for their loyalty, Shah ʿAbdul-ʿAzīm al-Ḥasanī (ʿa) lived with courage and dignity. He was a man of pure heart, known for his knowledge, worship, and loyalty to the Imāms of his time.
Because of his devotion to Imām al-Hādī (ʿa), the Abbasid rulers sought to arrest him. His crime was nothing more than love of the Prophet’s Household (ʿa). Forced to leave his home in Medina, he travelled in secret, hiding from city to city, carrying with him only his prayer mat, his knowledge, and his unwavering faith.
At last, he arrived in Rey (near present-day Tehran), where he disguised himself and lived quietly among the people. Despite the danger, he continued to teach the Qur’ān, narrate the traditions of the Ahlulbayt (ʿa), and guide believers with wisdom and humility. His presence became a hidden lantern for the faithful in a dark time.
One day, he visited Imām al-Hādī (ʿa) to present his beliefs and ensure his path was correct. He humbly said:
“O son of the Messenger of Allah, I wish to present my creed before you. If it is sound, I shall remain steadfast upon it. If it is not, guide me to the truth.”
He then recited his belief in God, the Prophets, the Imāms (ʿa), and the Awaited Mahdī (ʿaj). Imām al-Hādī (ʿa) listened and replied with radiant approval:
“O Abul-Qāsim! By Allah, this is the true religion that Allah has chosen for His servants. Remain firm upon it, and may Allah grant you steadfastness in this world and the next.”
This blessing from the Imām (ʿa) confirmed him as a pillar of guidance for the believers.
When he passed away in Rey, the people discovered the sanctity of the one who lived among them quietly. His shrine became a place of light, where generations of believers would come for solace, prayer, and renewal of faith.
