Hadith Of The Week – Friday Bulletin Issue10
The Noble Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) said:
أعدَلُ النّاسِ مَن رَضِی لِلنّاسِ ما یرضی لِنَفسِهِ، وکرِهَ لَهُم ما یکرَهُ لِنَفسِهِ.
“The most just of people is the one who desires for others what he desires for himself and dislikes for them what he dislikes for himself.”
Educational Messages of the Hadith for Teenagers and Youth:
One of the key educational messages of this hadith for teenagers and youth is the importance of fairness towards friends, teachers, and parents. Fairness means that one should desire for others what they desire for themselves. By practicing fairness, this behaviour becomes ingrained in their character, and they will continue to act justly as adults.
Educational Messages of the Hadith for Parents:
This hadith teaches parents to be fair in their interactions with each other, their children, and the people they work with. Additionally, it is the parents’ responsibility to teach their children about fairness. This includes discussing the concept of fairness and justice with their children and also being fair and just role models themselves. Children learn more from observing their parents’ actions than from merely listening to their words.
Educational Messages of the Hadith for Mosques and Cultural Centres:
Mosques and cultural centres should, in addition to worship and respecting Islamic rituals, discuss important ethical and behavioural concepts like fairness with their audiences specially young generation. These centres should share examples, stories, and wisdom related to this topic and educate the community. Religion and religiosity should be visible in Muslim’s behaviour, not just in their words. The responsibility of mosques and cultural centres is to spread one of the spirits of religion, which is ethics, among the people using such hadiths. The Noble Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) said: إنَّمَا بُعِثْتُ لِأُتَمِّمَ مَکَارِمَ الْأَخْلَاق “Indeed, I have been sent to perfect noble character”.
Educational Messages of the Hadith for Muslim Communities:
This hadith holds an important message for Muslim communities: fairness and justice must be observed in all social interactions. Muslim communities should create an environment where all members have equal rights and where each person treats others as they would like to be treated themselves. This approach can strengthen unity and cohesion among Muslims and promote both human and Islamic values. A nation can truly claim to follow the Noble Prophet of Islam only if it adheres to his teachings and practices. One of the most important teachings of Islam, as highlighted in this hadith, is to be fair and just.
