ʿAlī b. al-Imām Muḥammad al-Bāqir (d. 116/734) is the son of Imam al-Baqir (a), often referred to as “Sulṭān ʿAlī.” In 113/731, he moved to Kashan at the request of Ahl al-Bayt (as) supporters in “Chihil Hisaran” and “Fin.” He served as a religious leader there for three years until he and others were martyred by government forces in 116/734. His body was buried in Mashhad Ardahal. Every year, on the second Friday of Mihr (solar calendar), the carpet washing ceremony and mourning rituals are held in his memory. Imamzadeh Ali ibn Muhammad al-Baqir (A.S.) was invited to the region and had significant influence during his stay. This caused concern for the ruler of Ardehal, who ultimately sent a group to assassinate him. Ali fought against the oppressive rulers and was martyred in an unequal battle that lasted three days in Ardehal, mirroring the martyrdom of his grandfather, Imam Hussein (A.S.).
