Remembering Imam Ridha (AS) and Emulating Prophetic Virtues
Dear Readers!
This week, as we observe the martyrdom of Imam Ali ibn Musa al-Ridha (AS), we remember not only his sacrifice but also the profound wisdom he imparted to us. Imam Ridha (AS), the eighth Imam in the lineage of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), continues to be a beacon of guiding light through his sayings and teachings, a portion of which we reflect upon during this time of remembrance. He described the traits of the truly good people in our midst as those who:
- Are delighted when they do good
- Seek Allah’s forgiveness when they do evil
- Offer gratitude when they receive (Allah’s) favours
- Are patient when they are tried
- And pardon (others) when they are angry.
This guidance, as recorded in Tuhaf al-‘Uqool, provides a blueprint for personal conduct and spiritual demeanour that each of us can strive to embody. Additionally, Imam Ridha (AS) warned of the dangers of associating closely with those lacking in essential moral qualities:
- One whose lineage is known to be untrustworthy
- One whose nature lacks generosity
- One whose temper lacks balance
- One whose conduct is not noble
- And one who does not fear his Lord.
As we observe the martyrdom of Imam Ridha (AS), let these teachings resonate in our reflections and actions. Let us strive to be among those who bring delight through good deeds, seek forgiveness for our shortcomings, remain patient through trials, and extend pardon with magnanimity. In doing so, we honour both his legacy.
In upcoming week, we are going to welcome the month of Rabi al-Awwal, which offers us a unique opportunity to renew our faith, enhance our knowledge, and better our conduct in the light of the Seerah of the Prophet (PBUH &HP) and the lives of his noble descendants. Let us make the most of this blessed month by deepening our connection with the divine, engaging in acts of charity, seeking knowledge, and praying for peace and guidance.
May this Rabi al-Awwal bring you and your families’ joy, peace, and spiritual growth as we remember the lives and legacies of these towering figures in Islam.
