The Blessing of Sincerity in Preaching

In the month of Muharram in 1990, I travelled to my hometown in northwestern Iran to propagate divine commandments and promote the teachings of the Ahl al-Bayt (peace be upon them). Before the programs began, during a general meeting for preachers, a devout and pious man entered and said, “I am the head of the board of trustees for a mosque that is under construction. We do not have sufficient financial resources, and for this reason, if any of you are willing to preach without expecting financial compensation, we would be delighted to have you come to our mosque.”

At that moment, placing my trust in God, I stood up and declared my readiness. I went with him to the mosque and became acquainted with the locals. By the grace of God, the programs were held with enthusiastic welcome, and the sessions progressed beyond expectations. Therefore, on the third day of Muharram, I announced to the gathering of people: “I had brought fifteen thousand tomans for travel and expenses; but I feel that I can manage my life with just five thousand tomans. Thus, I donate the remaining ten thousand tomans for the completion of the mosque. I also request each of you to participate in this charitable work according to your ability.”

My words had a positive impact, and within just one hour, a remarkably significant amount of money was collected. Starting the next day, work on completing the mosque began, and this movement increased the vibrancy of the Muharram programs. Throughout the ten days, people welcomed the gatherings with even greater enthusiasm, and at the end of the ceremonies, they expressed their affection and gratitude towards me to the best of their ability.

On the thirteenth day of Muharram, while most clergy were preparing to return, I was lost in thought in a corner of the hall when suddenly a devout man called out to me. He spoke with me briefly with a kind gaze, and at the end, gave me a sum of money as a gift, which was nearly three times the amount typically given to clerics during that period. At that very moment, I clearly realized that true sustenance comes only from God Almighty, and if a person places their heart in His care, God opens the doors of provision and honour.
