In cases where the ruling of one Marja\u02bf differs from that of the other two, it is indicated in a footnote under the same number, mentioning the Marja\u02bf by name.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Revoking the Intention of Residence and Its Effect on Prayer<\/strong><\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>If a traveller withdraws from, or becomes uncertain about, the intention to stay for ten days <strong>before performing the first four-unit (rak\u2018ah) of obligatory prayer<\/strong>, their ruling remains that of a traveller, and they must perform their prayers in shortened form (qa\u1e63r). However, if they have already completed one four-unit obligatory prayer in full, then from that point onward\u2014as long as they remain in that place\u2014their prayers must be performed in full, even if they later revoke their intention.<\/li>\n<li>Performing two-unit prayers (such as the Morning Prayer) or three-unit prayers (such as the Maghreb prayer) has no effect on this ruling. Therefore, if they revoke their intention after such prayers, they must still perform their prayers in shortened form (qa\u1e63r).<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<p><strong>Changing Intention During a Four-Unit Prayer (First Prayer after Intending Residence)<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If a person withdraws from the intention of ten-day residence <strong>while performing their first four-unit (rak\u2018ah) prayer<\/strong>, the rulings are as follows:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Before entering the third rak\u2018ah<\/strong>: The prayer must be completed as <strong>shortened (qa\u1e63r)<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>During the third rak\u2018ah (before bowing \/ ruk\u016b<\/strong><strong>\u02bf<\/strong><strong>)<\/strong>: As a matter of <strong>obligatory precaution (i<\/strong><strong>\u1e25<\/strong><strong>tiy<\/strong><strong>\u0101<\/strong><strong>\u1e6d<\/strong><strong> w<\/strong><strong>\u0101<\/strong><strong>jib)<\/strong>, complete the prayer as qa\u1e63r, <strong>then repeat it again as qa\u1e63r<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>After entering the bowing (ruk\u016b<\/strong><strong>\u02bf<\/strong><strong>) of the third rak<\/strong><strong>\u2018<\/strong><strong>ah<\/strong>:<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u27a4 The prayer becomes <strong>invalid (b\u0101<\/strong><strong>\u1e6d<\/strong><strong>il)<\/strong>, and must be <strong>restarted and performed as qa\u1e63r<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"_Toc228009448\"><\/a><strong>Ayatollah Sistani: <\/strong>If one has entered the <strong>third rak\u2018ah but not yet gone into ruk\u016b<\/strong><strong>\u02bf<\/strong>: They must <strong>sit down and complete the prayer as qa\u1e63r<\/strong>. <strong>\u00a0<\/strong>If they have already gone into <strong>ruk\u016b<\/strong><strong>\u02bf<\/strong><strong> of the third rak<\/strong><strong>\u2018<\/strong><strong>ah<\/strong>: They may either break the prayer, or complete it<\/p>\n<p>\u27a4 but in either case, they must <strong>repeat it as qa\u1e63r afterward<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"_Toc228009449\"><\/a><strong>Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi: <\/strong>If one has entered the <strong>ruk\u016b<\/strong><strong>\u02bf<\/strong><strong> of the third rak<\/strong><strong>\u2018<\/strong><strong>ah<\/strong>: The prayer is <strong>invalid<\/strong>, and as long as they remain in that place, they must perform prayers as <strong>qa\u1e63r<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>The Effect of Revoking the Intention of Residence on Fasting<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>If a person begins fasting with the intention of staying (ten days), but <strong>withdraws from that intention before performing a four-unit prayer<\/strong>, the rulings are:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>If the withdrawal occurs after noon (zaw\u0101l)<\/strong>: The fast is <strong>valid<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<li><strong>If the withdrawal occurs before noon (zaw\u0101l)<\/strong>: The fast is <strong>invalid<\/strong>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><a name=\"_Toc228009450\"><\/a><strong>Ayatollah Sistani: <\/strong>If the withdrawal occurs <strong>after noon (zaw\u0101l)<\/strong> but the person has <strong>not performed a four-unit prayer<\/strong>: As a matter of precaution, they must <strong>complete the fast for that day and also make it up (qa<\/strong><strong>\u1e0d<\/strong><strong>\u0101<\/strong><strong>\u02be<\/strong><strong>)<\/strong> later. They must perform their prayers in <strong>shortened form (qa\u1e63r)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>\u27a4 They also <strong>cannot fast on the following days<\/strong> (since they are considered a traveller).<\/p>\n<p><a name=\"_Toc228009451\"><\/a><strong>Ayatollah Makarem Shirazi: <\/strong>If the withdrawal occurs <strong>after noon (zaw\u0101l)<\/strong> but the person has <strong>not performed a four-unit prayer<\/strong>: The fast is <strong>not valid<\/strong>, and they must perform their prayers in <strong>shortened form (qa\u1e63r)<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Leaving the Place of Residence and Continuity of Its Ruling<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Leaving the place of residence for a distance of <strong>less than four farsakhs<\/strong> (even for one or several days) does not invalidate the original intention of residence.
